Ebook Rating Guide

Although ebooks can be seen as significantly upgraded, digital versions of traditional paper books, there is still one problem that they share with their predecessors. You can’t tell if it’s a good read unless you actually read it. In this respect, it could even be said that traditional books have the upper hand because there are certain organizations that actively read, recommend and endorse books for others to try. You won’t be seeing Oprah’s Book Club touting ebooks anytime soon. Fortunately, there are some individuals and companies who do reviews for ebooks. This article will, hopefully, guide you in better understanding one of the more common rating systems used on the web for ebook reviews.

This article will cover a basic rating system that uses qualitative terms to rank and rate ebooks. The rating for an ebook could be Excellent, Good, Ok, Bad, or Horrible. Each rating is listed below accompanied by a brief explanation.

Excellent

Excellent ebooks are the best kind available and are usually written by professionals in the field of discussion. Excellent ebooks are almost always chock full of great information and data, making them worth the higher price that usually accompanies them.

5/5 Star Rating

Good

Good ebooks represent the upper range of ebook ratings, and books in this category should be the ones that you consider for purchase. Good ebooks have great content and lots of relevant information. There’s usually just an issue or two, such as slightly outdated or lacking information, that prevents it from getting the highest possible rating.

4/5 Star Rating

Average

Average ebooks are somewhat purchase-worthy if you’re into the topic it’s discussing and if they come at a good price. That’s because they’re usually average works featuring either messy writing styles or somewhat useless information. On the other hand, average ebooks have quite a fair share of relevant and useful information, too, hence the mid-range rating.

3/5 Star Rating

Bad

Bad ebooks might be a step above Horrible ones, but that doesn’t make them much more worthy of a purchase. Ebooks with Bad ratings are often poorly written, but there’s some valuable knowledge to be had if you can go to the trouble of picking it out from all the other pages. They’re worth a read or even a purchase if dire and affordable circumstances are present.

2/5 Star Rating

Horrible

The Horrible rating is the shortened form of “Don’t bother buying it” on this rating scale. Ebooks with Horrible ratings are usually poorly written ones and shouldn’t be bought, purchased or, if the retailer has any consideration, even given out for free.
